Rishi Valmiki Eco School

Our philosophy

We believe not only in Right to Education, but in Right to ‘Quality’ Education. Our children’s parents are daily wagers who can not afford high fees. There is no school in vicinity which provides quality education which emphasize on 360 degree development in the less fees regardless of religion and caste. Children need a school where education is given to meet every learning style. As children do not have learning environment at home its important that they have a school which caters to their learning need. Children come from challenging background and have their own emotional struggle and they need a school which caters to their emotional needs too.

At RVES quality education helps children blossom and develop their inner talent. We nurture them so that they will strive to reach their true potential and will emerge as a green generation. And most importantly they will be happy souls.

Events

Knowledge fair
Education is letting kids imagine, think, and be creative. Education is about facilitating children to reach their full potential. That’s what we do through ASPIRE knowledge fair. The fair covers important concepts from all the subjects. Children with the support of teachers create learning models and explain the concept to all the guests visitors.

Cultural festivals
Festivals of all religions are celebrated in RVES to inculcate culture & the sense of equality and respect for all. They are celebrated in Eco-friendly way and also tweaked to teach various values to children. Sense of patriotism and respect is integrated through celebration of days related to India’s freedom movement. Various values of freedom fighters and social reformers are studied closely too.

Wildlife festivals

Our annual function is all about knowledge.  Each festival has a wildlife theme and children are taught about 50-60 species under the theme.  During the festival children share the knowledge they have learned through awareness skits & dance performances. This festival increases the knowledge  about wildlife and build confidence and leadership among students.

This is done on a grander scale as a celebration of what kids have learnt about wildlife. Our children’s parents make most of the audience but kids, students with parents from other schools, are also invited for the festival . It’s a medium to spread awareness about wildlife among the common crowd.

We have so far covered the following wildlife in the festivals.

  • 2010-2011 – Felines (Cats) of India
  • 2012-2013 – Birds of Mumbai
  • 2015-2016 – Mammals of India
  • 2018-2019 – Secrets of the Sea – Marine Life

Parent engagement

For children’s growth it is very important that we work with the parents. We make parents aware about various child related difficulties which helps them to understand their children better. Happy parents and healthy communication means happy children.

Apart from quarterly meeting with parents, we also arrange events like

  • ‘Shaurya’ – Emphasizes on women empowerment and women from community are awarded for their work.

Parents are involved in the school as per their capacity- as a plumber, carpenter, electrician and more.

Team Building

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” , Team building activities are conducted to strengthen the bond among the team members and it gives teacher a much needed break.

Leadership training

At RVES we believe that leaders should be able to give that love and care to the team and encourage them to flourish. Leadership is not about ‘Do as I say” but about defining the clear goals and energising all to reach that goal. The workplace should be the happiest place then only individuals can give their best. Especially when we deal with children we spread our energy to them. A happy teacher means happy children.

Workshops

Workshops are designed in a way to develop teachers in various fields apart from academics which is needed to truly understand children. It covers academics, remedial education, skill development, child psychology.

Rewards

Teachers are rewarded for their efforts and dedication. This keeps them motivated to continue their excellent work, improve and evaluate themselves.

The community

We believe that school is not just connected with children but connected with their families and eventually with the larger community. Through various activities we try making an impact on the entire community and complete the circle as it comes back to our children. It also helps our children realize the problems around and strive hard to overcome them. It reflects when they talk about their future plans and how they dream to build a better a world around.

Street Plays

Street plays are performed by children in the community to spread awareness about substance abuse, cleanliness , implementing Eco-friendly ways.

Home Visits

Home visits help to understand the situation at each child’s home and their needs. Home visits are bridge to connect the school and community, it helps us to plan our programmed effectively which are  need based

Nature Trails

Nature trails are conducted for various community organisations, companies & parents. Objective of these nature trails is to spread environment awareness in community and connect people with nature.

Interviews

People from the community doing various jobs such as vegetable vendors, carpenters, electricians, and other daily wagers etc. are are invited for an interview with the children. These interviews help children to understand the struggle and efforts put by each individual and respect it.

Future objectives

We aim to take our project ‘vann’ to more children to connect them with nature and create more future caretakers of the planet.

We run a Goregaon branch in only 4 rented rooms of BMC , and the lack of space restricts us from providing education to a greater number of deserving children. Future goal is to have our own school premises to continue to give quality education to more number of children.

We aim to take our capacity building program and academic program to more teachers that will support them in the classroom to have better results.

Shaping Student Careers
We are planning to start MPSC and UPSC tuitions as well as vocational courses for students.
